HomeMy WebLinkAbout20070965 Ver 1_General Correspondence_200808250F WA T?9 Michael F Easley, Governor O ? 0 ? , i William G Ross Jr, Secretary co ice-- North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources Coleen Sullins, Director Division of Water Quality August 25, 2008 MEMORANDUM To Heath Slaughter, Division Environmental Officer, NCDOT Division 11 From Amy Euliss Subject Site Visit Follow-up TIP No K-4703 Wilkes County This memo is a follow-up to our site visit and Construction Stormwater Inspection of the Rest Area in Wilkes County (TIP No K-4703) on August 13, 2008 I appreciate the time you, David Poindexter, and other DOT and Contractor staff spent with George Smith and myself discussing the Construction Stormwater records and reviewing permitted sites The following items are provided to help document our site visit and to assist the Division NCDOT staff with current project status documentation We visited all permit sites on this date, which will be discussed below Construction Stormwater Records Records kept by both NCDOT and the contractor fully complied with the applicable requirements of the NCG01000 The Division appreciates NCDOT's immediate attention to deficiencies in the records noticed during a site inspection on July 24, 2008 Site 1 The cause of the sedimentation problem has been attributed to damage to the pipe during a water line installation The issue has been addressed Please continue to monitor this site, and remove any sediment that accumulates in the in-stream check dam until the pipe has completely flushed any accumulated sediment Once the pipe has stabilized, the check dam should be removed Site 2 An in-stream check dam that was installed with the pipe extension needs to be removed Sites 3 The site has been constructed according to plans The constructed riffle has not begun to silt in We'll need to continue to monitor its success Site 4 The impacts to this site extend beyond the 59 feet of permanent impacts I will need to perform a permit modification for the additional impacts Please send me a copy of the modified plans as soon as possible Thank you again for the time you took to conduct the site visits Please contact me if you have any additional questions NOne hCarolrna Naturally North Carolina Division of Water Quality 585 Waughtown Street Phone (336) 771-5000 Customer Service Internet www ncwaterquality org Winston-Salem, NC 27107 FAX (336) 771-4630 1-877-623-6748 An Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer - 50% Recycled/10% Post Consumer Paper
