HomeMy WebLinkAbout20060367 Ver 4_Email_20080910Re FW U-3344A Plan of Action SZZ?d?? ??2(»(2- ? $?V7) (mil 7?5-34-4-A- w e, E- Subject: Re FW U-3344A Plan of Action From: Rob Ridings <rob ndmgs@ncmail net> Date: Wed, 10 Sep 2008 10 46 27 -0400 To: "Murray, Christopher A" <cmurray@ncdot gov> Chris, Thanks for the update I look forward to seeing the site and meeting with you tomorrow morning at 10 Thanks, rob Murray, Christopher A wrote Eric and Rob, We have determined our plan of action at Airport Boulevard concerning the loss of material in the stream This information is presented below Chris -----Original Message----- From Capehart, Cadmus Sent Wednesday, September 10, 2008 8 01 AM To Murray, Christopher A Cc Pearson, Donald R, Jernigan, Dennis W Subject U-3344A Plan of Action Chris, This is currently my plan of action for retrieving the material that was lost due to the failure of the existing valve on the 16" water main on Airport Boulevard The Department owns a vacuum that has been used in similar situations, but it is located in Division 1 The guys down there are currently on their way to Hertford to pick up the hose that will be needed As soon as they have it in hand, they will be leaving for Raleigh I'm expecting it will probably be around lunch time before they can get here Triangle is in the process of gathering a labor force to put on the "bucket brigade" It will probably take them several hours to secure this labor force, but they are working on it Yesterday, Donald suggested that we install an impervious dike at the end of the culvert and another one at the end of the work area to keep live flow from running through the lost material We will pump the water beyond the workslte into a bucket or 55 gal drum to kill the velocity of the water at the discharge end of the hose In the event the "bucket brigade" gets onsite significantly earlier than the vacuum, then we will probably go with this option In the event the vacuum and the bucket bridge arrive at about the same time, we will install a dike at the end of the culvert to try to completely seal the flow of water from continuing into the work area I won't install another dike at the end of the work area because I'm anticipating the vacuum working within the first 100+/- feet and then the bucket brigade working the remainder I want to avoid discharging water from the pumping effort into the stream since we will have people walking back and forth in the stream I think it will only make matters worse since people will be walking and working again in an area of live flow So, we will either completely seal off the water flow and back water up into the box culvert or pump to a side basin if necessary If the vacuum and the bucket brigade are working simultaneously, I plan on having the bucket brigade bring the material to the end of the vacuum hose to save them from having to carry it another 100+/- feet and it should expedite the process Triangle is looking into getting a small piece of equipment (same type we discussed yesterday) to run back and forth only in the bottom of the stream We will not have equipment coming through the buffer zone and there will be no 1 of 2 9/10/2008 10 47 AM Re FW U-3344A Plan of Action clearing Donald called me this morning, so I have ran all this by him If you see any problems with this plan of action, please let me know as soon as possible I have a meeting in the field at 8 30, so call me on my cell phone 369-8505 Thanks, Cadmus 2 of 2 9/10/2008 10 47 AM
