Mr. Johnson,
I have been commissioned by Woodlands and Waterview LLC (WW LLC) to assist them in
obtaining permits and approval for dredging and shoreline stabilization of the above referenced
site. I will be overseeing this project to ensure that all permitted work will be in accordance with
each permits conditions.
It is my understanding that Ms. Ann Duncan has submitted the necessary information and
associated fees required to obtain approval from Duke Lake Management for a dredging permit.
I believe that Ms. Duncan has submitted to NCDENR the permit application and associated fees
to obtain approval for shore line stabilization.
Because there are two issues associated with the permitting this project, It’s my intention to
hopefully clarify for you how the shoreline stabilization will be accomplished
Tree removal for shoreline stabilization:
It is our intent to do this work via water using a barge **
If the lake level should drop, preventing us from completing the shoreline stabilization
by water, we will then finish work via land
Our plan is to begin shoreline stabilization at furthest point of the property going out of
the cove, this is the area that has the steepest slopes
Material for sediment control will be on site and installed if necessary
While lake levels are constantly changing, we want to stress that our intent to accomplish
this work via water.
**
Should the lake level drop where the barge cannot be used, we will need to finish this
work via land. (You will be contacted immediately should the water level drop to the
point that the barge cannot be used)
Access points will be located in areas that minimalize tree removal and impacts to the
buffer
These access points will be field located and incorporated on our site plan
I have attached photographs for your review of the existing vegetative shoreline. Trees located
within the Catawba River Buffer identified for removal will be done with minimal impact to the
buffer. As stated earlier, I will be onsite overseeing all work including the removal of dredge
material from Lake Norman and the removal of all trees.
Should you have any questions or would like to meet on site please call me on my mobile phone
at 704.397.6556.
Thank you
Michael W. Burkhard
