The West Ellerbe Creek Greenway Project is a 10 -feet wide multi-purpose path
along West Ellerbe Creek in Durham County, North Carolina (Figure 1). The
greenway will be designed as a multi -use bicycling and pedestrian trail. This type
of trail is typically constructed as a 10 -foot wide asphalt path, with an aggregate
base, and two -foot wide shoulders on either side. Land disturbance for the
construction of these trails is generally 15 to 30 feet wide.
The proposed corridor extends Northeast from the existing park west of Guess
Road (Westover Park) to the Stadium Drive Trail. The total length of the project
corridor is approximately 1.0 miles. There will be two signalized crossings
associated with this project. A pedestrian hybrid beacon for the Guess Road
crossing, and a full traffic signal with pedestrian accommodations at the North
Pointe Road crossing.
