Please advise as to your thoughts. Also I'd say leave here (or we could swing by Parker-Lincoln Bldg) around 3 pm or so. Agree? Smith, Alexander P wrote: John, Can you get the Golden Chariot at this late notice? It sure would save on gas if we car-pooled. It is my understanding that you, me, Brad, LeiLani, and Rick are staying for two nights. I can be ready to go my mid afternoon. What does everyone else think? Sandy, et al - let me know if you want me to drive a vehicle and how many may come from Raleigh (or points east). the bad news is that the rescheduled hearing is the week of October 17 in Sylva which is the week of the piedmont training (gotta love irony!). I suspect that the court will not be all week and also suspect I that it will not be Monday so I may be able to do the first day of the class and then bug out for the rest (assuming the court case goes forward, that is). However we probably need to have someone else on tap to do my presentations for the piedmont class just in case. thankx Smith, Alexander P wrote: Hello Everyone, I am going to be out of the office on vacation next week. Both Matt Cusack and Brad Allen should be in the office during my absence, and Matt should be considered the point man for any questions. Our motel reservations have been made based on my July 1 e-mail (see below). Please let Matt know if you require a change. EcoScience will be generating mapping products for DuPont State Forest and the Jackson Park and Mud Creek areas of Hendersonville. Let Matt know if you have your heart set on another wetland site. We'll bring the usual supplies (sharp-shooter/auger, Muncell, mapping, soil surveys, data forms, keys, a manual, a GPS, and a camera. I expect we'll all be in touch by phone. Unless we decide differently between now and then, let's plan to gather in the foyer of the motel at 8 am Wednesday, July 16. Anyone coming up later can phony in for our position to catch up; however, I don't remember how good cell service will be in that neck of the woods. If needed, the junction of Cascade Lake Road and DuPont Road (near Sheep Mountain, NC Gazetteer p. 53, grid D5.5, southeastern corner of Transylvania County) should be a good rendezvous point for the first day. Call in early and we'll set up a time to meet. Have a safe 4th all... Tuesday, July 15: Those who can plan to travel to the Holiday Inn Express in Brevard. Wednesday, July 16: We travel to Dupont Forest to locate relatively undisturbed wetlands for the Day 1 field exercise (relatively small, simple wetlands to ID and assess) and the Day 3 field exercise (wetland complex). During the WFAT Bog Junket, we found in Dupont Forest very nice examples of Mountain Bog, Floodplain Pool, Headwater Forest, Bottomland Hardwood Forest, Riverine Swamp Forest, and Non-Tidal Freshwater Marsh. David will leave us sometime during the day, and John is expected to arrive for Thursday activities. Thursday, July 17: We look in Hendersonville for disturbed wetlands for I the Day 2 field exercise. The WFAT visited several disturbed wetlands during our previous field visit at (I remember well the disturbed areas Mud Creek and by the railroad where we stirred up the bees). We should I also keep our eyes open in the Brevard/Dupont Forest area for disturbed I wetlands. There is also a disturbed Mountain Bog at the fish hatchery just up the road from Brevard. Let me know if this sounds OK I will be glad to go ahead and take care of reservations (at state rate) at the Holiday Inn Express (1570 Asheville Highway, Brevard, NC 28712, 828-862-8900) for those attending. 3 of 6 7/15/2008 3:04 PM RE: Proposed schedule for NC WAM mountain reconn I I Unless I hear otherwise from you, I am anticipating we will need rooms on Tuesday night for five (LeiLani, David, Rick, Brad, and me) and rooms I on Wednesday night for five (LeiLani, John, Rick, Brad, and me). It is my understanding that Kathy can't make this trip, and will not be involved in the class here since Monte is scheduled to take this class. I I will plan for EcoScience to bring NC WAM forms, copies of the key, I manual, soil surveys for the appropriate counties (Transylvania and Henderson), USGS 7.5-minute quadrangle and LiDAR mapping of targeted sites. I look forward to hearing from everyone.
