Subj: Cliffs development
Ms Karoly,
I am writing because of my concerns about the impact to wet lands,
stream channels and open water by the Cliffs development in Fairview
NC. I have lived in Fairview for 24 years and we have had no problem
with our water supply from our well. I am very concerned that the
diverting of water on the mountain above our home will affect the
voulme and quality of our water. As there is no public water source in
our area of Fairview our only source of water is our well. In this
time of drought, there is no guarantee that the springs and wells in
our community will remain as viable water sources. If the Cliffs are
allowed to divert water for the development of their golf course, what
guarantees do the present residents of this area have that the
construction and diversion of water will not affect our water supply.
Even if we were not in an extreme drought, I would still feel that this
is not a proper use of land on the ridgeline of the mountains and would
cause longterm troubles for the people living below this development.
If this project is approved, I would like to see some guarantee that
the Cliffs development would have to compensate any landowners affected
by a loss of their well or spring. Everytime blasting occurs on the
mountain, there is a chance that someone's water supply will be
affected. I feel that the development of a golf course that will not
be available to the residents of this area of Fairview, should not be
allowed if it will jeopardize the lives of those that live in the
vicinity of the new development.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
