To whom it may concern :
I am requesting a public hearing concerning the Cliffs of High Carolina development.
Me, along with many of my neighbors along Old Fort Rd.,which will be below this planned
development, are concerned about the negative impact such a large enterprise will have on our
water, road, quality of life, and that of the wildlife in our streams, etc.
The Cliffs of High Carolina represent a potential census that is equal to or greater than the
population of the nearby town of Black Mountain, with the associated urban and ecological
difficulties. How can this action and application be reviewed and granted without the public
input?
I am very concerned about the use of water to care for the golf course, and where it will come
from. Will our wells and springs be affected by the use of thousands of gallons of water being
used to care for the grass, not to mention the chemicals used , and the runoff into our streams.
We have many pristine streams now which are designated `protected trout streams'. What will
happen when the chemical runoff from the golf course, homeowner lawn care products, and
chemicals used for road maintenance in winter find their way into the water ?
There is also the concern over silt, mud and debris that always occur in construction areas. This
development plans to build on at least 2000 acres. What will this mean to our area? We need
answers.
There is also the question of added traffic on a small and windy country road. It is already
dangerous,with many accidents occurring frequently.
Will the amount of runoff from the cleared and paved areas cause a change in the flood plain?
I feel that the Cliff's application does not demonstrate a thorough effort of avoiding impact on
stream, road ,wetland and water resources. Therefore, I request a Public Hearing.
Sincerely,
Diana Cota
