A. Beckwith@saw02.usace. army. mil> CC: <cyndi. karo ly@ncmail. net> To: Ms Beckworth, USACE I am writing this letter to strongly urge the Corps of Engineers to hold a public hearing about the golf course the Cliffs subdivision is proposing in Fairview. I am a longtime resident of Fairview, and live on land with a spring that had been providing water to the neighborhood for almost 200 years. On our land the spring supplies water to 3 houses, two ponds, and a farm which feeds cows and chickens. Downstream additional people use the water from this creek before it dumps into Cane Creek. Of course, it is impossible to know in advance whether the Cliffs golf course will affect the water supply for this spring. But since the spring is so important to our way of life, and to so many people and animals, no golf course which will be accessible almost exclusively to wealthy white men should be allowed to endanger millennia-old ecologies and centuries old ways of life. The only way to clarify these issues, it seems to me, is to hold a public hearing in Fairview before a permit is granted. At this hearing, perhaps the soils and water engineers for the Cliffs will be able to ensure that our water supplies will not be affected, and perhaps the Cliffs can be required to post bonds to ensure that if our waters are affected, there will be money to remedy the situation. Thanks for your help. Steven Norris 372 Sharon Rd, Fairview, NC 28730 828-777-7816 1 of 1 7/29/2008 10:38 AM
