This bridge replacement and the associated roadway improvements have been designed in a manner that minimizes the increase in impervious surface area. The Quality Impacts) culvert will have a sill and floodplain bench installed that will promote a low flow channel within the culvert during normal flow conditions. A proposed lateral ditch in the northeast quadrant of the proposed culvert will collect and convey stormwater runoff from the road surface to a 15" pipe, which will outlet onto a rip rap pad and into Glady Fork downstream of the culvert. The proposed ditch will be lined with Permanent Soil Reinforcement Matting to prevent erosion of the ditch channel. The culvert approximates the existing bed slope and provides a smooth transition from upstream to downstream. Alternating Low Flow Sills/Baffles: The proposed culvert will have alternating sills and baffles to provide a low flow channel that approximates the existing low flow channel Culvert/Stream Alignment Stream Patterns Upstream and Downstream The stream is relatively straight approaching and leaving the crossing with minor bends at the inlet and oulet of the proposed culvert. The stream of the Culvert that Could Affect Fish contains long riffles and several small steps in the area of the project. Passage and Bank Stability: Bed Forms Impacted by Culvert (riffles, The proposed culvert is located in a section of the stream that currently features a long riffle. pools, glides, etc.): Low Flow Floodplain Bench Required? Yes A floodplain bench is necessary to provide the low-flow channel geometry necessary to approximate the existing stream as well as (provide justification) adequately pass high flow events without increasing water surface elevations upstream of the culvert. Sharp Bends at Inlet/Outlet? No There are gradual bends at the inlet and outlet of the proposed culvert, and the proposed culvert is better aligned with the channel (describe culvert alignment with stream) than the existing bridge which will allow the inlet bend to be smoothed further. Stream Realignment Necessary? (provide No N/A justification) Bank Stabilization: Class I rip rap has been specified for the banks upstream and downstream of the proposed culvert to provide bank stabilization.
