SUBJECT: Steele's Mill Dam Removal Project - DWQ Project #08-0889
Dear Ms. Karoly,
This letter is submitted in response to your letter dated July 7, 2008 (copy attached), regarding the permit
submittal for the Steele's Mill Dam Removal Project. Specific comments are addressed below:
1) Five copies of full size plan sheets are being submitted with this letter.
2) Specific plans for Phase II are not available, and we are requesting permitting of the dam removal
(Phase I) only. Proposed Phase II of the project would involve stream restoration activities upstream and
downstream of the dam removal project; however, funding for this work has not been allocated and no
design work has been performed to date. Permitting of Phase II, if funded this year, would likely not occur
until two years from now.
3) We are currently attempting to setup a meeting with DWQ to review the site. We are also attempting to
have representatives from the Corps of Engineers, Wildlife Resources Commission, and Us Fish and
Wildlife at this meeting to facilitate concurrence with all parties involved.

Dear Mr. Crump:
On May 29, 2008, the Division of-Water Quality (DWQ) received your application dated May 28, 2008,
to fill or otherwise impact 0.008 acres of 404/wetland (0.002 acres permanent impact, and 0.006 acres
temporary impact) and 328 linear feet of perennial stream (81 linear feet permanent impact, and 247
linear feet temporary impact) to construct a residential development at the site. The DWQ has determined
that your application was incomplete and/or provided inaccurate information as discussed below. The
DWQ will require additional information in order to process your application to impact protected
wetlands and/or streams on the subject property. Therefore, unless we receive five copies of the
additional information requested below, we will place this project on hold as incomplete until we receive
this additional information. If we do not receive the requested information, your project will be formally
returned as incomplete. Please provide the following information so that-we may continue to review your
project. ''
Additional Information Requested:
1. Please re-submit your site plans on full plan sheets at a scale of no smaller than 1"=50' with
topographic contours.
2. Please provide specific plans for all of the Phase I and Phase fl proposed activities.
3. This Office recommends scheduling a meeting to discuss this project.
Please submit this information within 30 calendar days of the date of this letter. If we do not receive this
requested information within 30 calendar days of the date of this letter, your project will be withdrawn
and you will need to reapply with a new application and a new fee.
This letter only addresses the application review and does not authorize any impacts to wetlands, waters
or protected buffers. Please be aware that any impacts requested within your application are not
