NCDOT representatives will be available at the Pre-Hearing Open House between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to answer questions and receive comments relative to the proposed project. The opportunity to submit written comments or questions will also be provided. Interested citizens may attend at any time during the above mentioned hours. A formal presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. The presentation will consist of an explanation of the proposed location, design, the state - federal relationship, and right of way and relocation requirements and procedures. The hearing will be open to those present for statements, questions and comments. The presentation and comments will be recorded and a transcript will be prepared. NCDOT proposes to widen to NC 209 to a four-lane, median-divided roadway from SR 1801 (Liner Cove Road) to SR 1523 (Old Clyde Road). The project will include the realignment of NC 209 from SR 1526 (Carly Road) to Old Clyde Road along with the reconfiguration of ramps at the US 19-23-74/US 23 Business/NC 209 Interchange. In addition, the project calls for the replacement of railroad structure R-32, which carries Norfolk-Southern Railway over NC 209. The improvements proposed will reduce congestion and improve access within the project study area. A map displaying the location and design of the project and a copy of the environmental document - Environmental Assessment (EA) - is available for public review at the Town of Waynesville Town Hall located at 16 South Main Street, Waynesville and at the NCDOT Maintenance Office located at 619 Paragon Parkway, Clyde. Additional material may be submitted until September 12, 2008. NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this hearing. Anyone requiring special services should contact Mr. Robbins as early as possible so that arrangements can be made.
