B-5691 is the replacement of Bridge 052 which is along SR 1006 (Maxwell Road) over South River in Cumberland
County. We had scoped the bridge last year and it is scheduled to be let in conjunction with B-4950 which was just
permitted by you. The problem is that bridge 052 is closed right now due to damage from the hurricane and it was to
serve as the detour for B-4950. The projects need to be completed in conjunction with each other so that the detours
can be accomplished.
An Emergency Design Build Contract is being developed and advertised quickly to combine the two projects. The
Design-Build Group in Raleigh is requesting that demolition begin as quickly as possible ahead of the permitting, which
has been the request for all other hurricane related project. No other construction is requested until the permits are
received.
