Typical Cross Section Description: Linville Road (SR 2022): 2 paved lanes (total 24' wide), 6' shoulder on each side (9' with Linville Road (SR 2022): open shoulder section, 2 paved lane (total 21' wide); guardrail). The first 4' of shoulder is paved. Annual Avg Daily Traffic (veh/hr/day): Design/Future: 2200 Year: 2025 Existing: 1100 Year: 2011 General Project Narrative: The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has proposed to replace Guilford County Bridge #400108 on Linville Road (SR 2022) over Haw River. The existing (Description of Minimization of Water structure is a three span bridge (1 @18', 1@17.2', 1@17.4') and is timber deck on timber joists supported by timber caps, timber piles and timber bulkheads. The proposed Quality Impacts) structure is a Single Span 24" Cored Slab with 4' Deep Caps, 1@70'. This structure has been designed to have as little environmental, wetland, and surface water impacts as possible. 2:1 roadway fill slope will be used in the wetland area to minimize wetland impacts. To avoid direct discharge of bridge storm water into the receiving water, deck drains are not required for the proposed bridge. Storm water impacts to the stream have been minimized by utilizing grated inlet and pipe to collect bridge storm water and use rip rap outlet protection at 14+25 LT to dissipate energy to provide a diffuse flow (non-erosive sheet flow) in a wooded area. This diffuse flow will run for a distance of 10'+/- and 40'+/- before entering the wetland and buffer respectively. At the same (NW) quadrant, an existing roadside ditch has outlet at 13+30 LT and becomes diffuse flow. This diffuse flow runs for a distance of 70'+/- and 100'+/- before reaching the wetland and buffer zone 2 respectively . This ditch will be retained and lined with toe protection along the fill slope. At SW quadrant, an existing roadside ditch has outlet at 11+50 RT and will run for 60'+/- and 90'+/- as diffuse flow before entering the wetland and buffer zone 2 respectively. This ditch will be retained and lined with toe protection along the fill slope. At the NE and SE quadrants, there are no roadside ditches. The roadway is fill section and runoff discharges as sheet flow off the pavement through grassed shoulder and fill slope or wooded area to remove pollutants via infiltration and settling before entering the buffer on each side of the road. At all four quadrants, there are no proposed roadside ditches with concentrated flows or proposed stormwater conveyances through the buffers. Due to the nature of low impact bridge replacement, the increases in stormwater discharges (post vs pre condition) are insignificant and the existing ditches do not need to be modified. Therefore, additional stormwater measures are not required.
