Department of Environmental Quality Division of Water Resources 1601 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699-1601 Re: Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC Catawba-Wateree Hydroelectric Project (FERC No. 2232) 401 Water Quality Certification — Report of Proposed New Consumptive Use Dear Mr. Zimmerman: Duke Energy Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC (Duke Energy) is reporting a proposed new consumptive water use as required by Condition of Certification 3. of North Carolina Certification No. 3767 for the Catawba-Wateree Hydroelectric Project (Project) issued November 14, 2008 and by the new license for the project issued on November 25, 2015, both of which require this information be provided to the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality. The LakeWalk Subdivision located on Lake Norman (Gowans Ford Development) has requested permission to install a water intake capable of irrigating approximately 3 acres of common areas. The proposed pump would have a maximum instantaneous pumping capacity of 75 gallons per minute, equivalent to 108,000 gallons per day. The projected average annual water use would be 10,856 gallons per day (based on using the pump for 8 months of irrigation). Your agency may be contacted for consultation regarding this proposed water use. Neither Duke Energy nor the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission have issued any approvals or will do so until after Duke Energy is provided with results of agency consultation.
