Subject: Submittal of Results from Water Quality Sampling of AOW S-23 and S-24 at Cliffside
Steam Station
Dear Mr. Chernikov,
Duke Energy personnel collected a water quality sample of AOW S-23 and S-24 (previously
mislabeled as S-22 in our notification letter dated 15 September 2015) at Cliffside Steam Station
on 23 September 2015, and the laboratory report containing the results of the water quality
sampling was received on 5 October 2015. Enclosed with this letter are the results of the water
quality sampling.
For S-24 the laboratory results do not indicate that the water is influenced by coal combustion
residuals. For S-23 the boron result, when compared to background levels, suggests that the
water is influenced by coal combustion residuals, however, the exact source is unknown.
Should you have any questions regarding this submittal or require addition information, please
contact Ross Hartfield at 980-373-6583 or at ross.hartfield@duke-energy.com.
