Subject: No Cyanide in Badin Lake
Dear Ms. Rodriguez,
Stop Alcoa from Discharging Cyanide into Our Waters NOW!
I am writing to ask that NCDENR deny Alcoa's application for a stormwater permit (#NC0004308) to
discharge cyanide contaminated groundwater into Badin Lake and Little Mountain Creek. NCDENR should
require Alcoa to clean up this old, leaking landfill -not permit discharges of hazardous chemicals into an already
impaired stream. The permit as written does not satisfy the Clean Water Act and should be denied or modified
to protect Little Mountain Creek from ongoing contamination.
Frankly, I am appalled that this would even be considered. Don't we all (especially you) have an obligation to
protect the land and waters that we live on and near. At least once a year, I go to Badin Lake campground and
kayak in the lake. It disgusts me to think of what is being allowed to be dumped in there.
No more cyanide in Little Mountain Creek!
Sincerely,
Cole Archer,
Concerned NC Resident
