Inc. Dan River Energy Complex JUL 2 7 2015 Submittal of Notification of Potential New Seep NC0003468 Water Quality Rockingham County Permitting Section Dear Mr. Chernikov, Duke Energy is submitting this letter of Notification to outline the identification and investigation of a potential new seep at Dan River. On June 20.2015, Duke Energy personnel observed a potential new seep at the toe of the Primary Ash Basin on the bank of the Dan River(in the vicinity of a bedrock well MW-22 BR).The potential seepage flow was observed to be clear and emerging between rip rap armoring. The river flows into the rip rap immediately upstream of the potential seep and an eddy was observed immediately downstream of the potential seep. Based on river flow and large size of rip rap armoring,it was suspected that the potential seep was actually river water flowing through voids in rip rap(from high pressure to low pressure). Duke Energy personnel re-inspected area on June 21, 2015 and no change in conditions was observed. A sample of the potential seepage flow and upstream river flow was collected on June 22,2015 for analysis and comparison. The analytical results(see attached Table I -Potential Seep Confirmation Sampling) indicated the contaminant concentrations between the sample of the potential seep and the sample of upstream river flow are similar. Based on these analytical results,Duke Energy has determined that the area of concern is not a potential new seep. If you have any questions.please contact Ms.Joyce Dishmon at(336)623-0238.
