From: Hood, Donna Sent: Saturday, January 30, 2016 8:35 AM To: Beam, Patricia Subject: Rest Area visit Hi Trish, As a follow up to yesterday's visit to the Tomlin Mill waste site as well as the I-77 Rest Area, I am sending this email and including pictures. Please instruct all interested parties to make corrections and repairs as discussed: Tomlin Mill Site: 1. Lower areas of the site were not accessed. However, discussion with the operator of the long reach track hoe revealed that he was the person on site in charge of cleaning the sediment ponds as well as the wetland impact areas and had been skimming them all out repeatedly over the recent weeks. A follow up site visit will confirm. 2. DWR expressed concern over the continued widening of the spoil site as relates to overwhelming the design size of the receiving sediment basins. Please compare both and track the limits of disturbance as relates to basin size to ensure runoff can be handled per state requirements. Rest Area: 1. South bound side, downstream side of culvert—(pictures)-south side of the creek- repair heavily impacted area at the discharge of the sediment basin; remove sediment and gravel from the stream at the gouged out, eroded bank. Repair rill with class 2 stone interspersed with smaller stone. Repair discharge pipe and dike wall of sediment basin to design standards. Protect stormwater drop inlet that leads to the galvanized metal storm drain discharging directly to the creek. 2. South bound side, downstream of culvert—north side of creek—repair stone outlet where water has undercut measures and rechannelized before eroding areas behind the rock next to the wing wall. Install silt fencing behind the stone at the top of the culvert to control runoff from entering and eroding sediment behind the rock that is adjacent to wing wall. Clean out all sediment currently deposited in the creek at the toe of the slope of the rock and wing wall. If there are any questions, give me a call.
