Coastal Area Management Act Permit 43-15 issued March 24, 2015 Dear Sirs: As you are aware, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is constructing improvements to US 17 from SR 1330/SR 1439 south of Belgrade to the New Bern Bypass. Permits for this project were issued in 2015, and the project was let to construction on June 16, 2015. The NCDOT is requesting a permit modification to allow for changes the contractor wants to make to the work trestle at permit Site 4 on section R-2514D (structures 7& 8D at Sta. 389+47.50-L- on the highway plan sheets). The modified design will remove two fingers at bents 8 and 9 of the permanent bridge and extend the work trestle over Trent River connecting the two sides. The additional area requested will have a trestle with a maximum width of 30 ft and a minimum low steel elevation as the proposed permanent bridge and the existing US 17 bridge located downstream. Please see the attached plan sheet showing the proposed changes. The NCDOT hereby requests approval of this proposal by modifying the project permits as appropriate.
