A portion of the southwestern boundary borders Swift Creek and the confluence of White Oak Swamp while the eastern boundary is located along NC Highway 33. The site was selected after meeting with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, NC Wildlife Resources Commission and the NC Natural Heritage Program as well as other stakeholder groups. The site is currently used for agriculture with approximately 220 acres of row crop land and the remaining areas are forested with a one-story private residence and a cemetery adjacent to NC Highway 33. Portions of the forested areas were in pasture but have been abandoned. A full detailed assessment of the plant communities as well as a wetland delineation have not been performed. Numerous ditches and several channelized streams are located on the site.
