As with Bridge 61, the longitudinal cross section/profile was taken at the centerline of the road. In the “profile along structure” drawing, the culvert elevation is set such that the low flow barrel sill matches existing stream bed elevation. Actual survey measurements were taken in the stream to generate the up- and downstream bed elevations and set the culvert profile accordingly. As such, the permit drawing has been modified to show the upstream elevation cross section as a red-dashed line. The impact summary sheet was also updated to differentiate between the culvert and the bank stabilization. I've addressed those changes in the cover letter and the PCN accordingly (as well as changing up the mitigation section). Let me know if you need anything else! Thanks! Nik PS I'll be out of the office until Monday; Ross is going in for Lasik and I've got some things to take care of at home. I'll have my tablet and phone if you need to call/email. -----Original Message----- From: Bailey, David E CIV USARMY CESAW (US) \[mailto:David.E.Bailey2@usace.army.mil\] Sent: Monday, November 21, 2016 2:03 PM To: Thomson, Nicole J Subject: RE: Bridge No. 254 on SR 3121 (Ferguson Rd) over UT to South Prong Stinking Quarter Creek, Guilford; WBS No. 17BP.7.R.87 Nikki, Hi Nikki. I have a few questions about the above referenced project, the same as those for Bridge 61: 1) This bridge to culvert appears to be similar to the others we've recently permitted, except that the permanent impact amount (110 l.f.) seems to include both the fill required due to the culvert as well as the fill required for bank stabilization. Typically you would itemize the impacts due to rip rap separately from the culvert fill, and wouldn't propose compensatory mitigation for the rip rap component since it only occurs on the banks. Is this project different than the others? i.e. are they having to realign the channel outside of the footprint of the culvert or place rip rap in the thalweg? If so, then we may require compensatory mitigation for the area outside of the culvert fill. Otherwise, can you itemize the rip rap impacts separately from the culvert fill, and resend the portions of the PCN (Sections C.3 and D.2)/cover letter/Wetland Permit Impact Summary Sheet that change as a result? 2) The documents state that the culvert structure will have 1' and 2' sills with a beveled inlet. However, the cross section and plan sheets don't appear to show the sills or beveled inlet. Am I missing something? 1 Thanks, and I hope you're having a good holiday week! -Dave Bailey --- David E.
