NOTICE OF A FOLLOW-UP CITIZENS INFORMATIONAL WORKSHOP FOR THE
PROPOSED SR 2755 (CARMON ROAD) GRADE SEPARATION WITH THE
NORTH CAROLINA RAILROAD/NORFOLK SOUTHERN RAILROAD (NCRR/NS)
IN MCLEANSVILLE
WBS No. 41178.1.1
Guilford County
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold the above
Citizens Informational Workshop on Monday, May 19, 2008 between the hours of
5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria of Eastern Guilford Middle School located at
435 Peeden Drive, Gibsonville.
NCDOT representatives will be available in an informal setting to answer
questions and receive comments about a new alternative for the proposed project.
This workshop is a follow-up to the one held at McLeansville Elementary School on
August 16, 2007. A new design alternative will be presented, and previous
alternatives will be reviewed. The opportunity to submit written comments or
questions will be provided. Interested citizens may attend at any time during the
above mentioned hours. No formal presentation will be made.
NCDOT initially held a workshop to propose replacing the existing rail crossing
of SR 2755 (Carmon Road) and the North Carolina Railroad/Norfolk Southern
(NCRR/NS) track with a nearby grade separated crossing. A grade separation means
using a bridge to separate intersecting roads and/or railroads. This is part of an effort
to reduce the number of redundant and/or unsafe rail-highway at-grade crossings
statewide.
The new alternative, available for your review at the upcoming second
workshop, proposes to construct an extension of Carmon Road to the west, generally
paralleling the railroad tracks. It would tie into Bethel Church Road at McLeansville
Road. A grade separation with the railroad would not be required in this alternative.
Anyone desiring additional information may contact Marc Hamel,
Environmental & Planning Branch, Rail Division at 1553 Mail Service Center,
Raleigh, NC 27699-1553, phone (919) 733-7245 x 270, or email
mhamel(a?dot.state. nc.us.
NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with
Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this workshop. Anyone
requiring special services should contact Mr. Hamel as early as possible so that
arrangements can be made.
