SUBJECT: TIP Project No. B-4459; Replacement of Bridge No. 56 on NC 42 over
Buckhorn Creek in Chatham County; Bridge Group 51
The Project Development and Environmental Analysis Branch is starting the project development,
environmental and engineering studies for project B-4459. The project is included in the North
Carolina Transportation Improvement Program and is scheduled for construction in fiscal year 2011.
The alternatives under consideration at this time for this bridge replacement project are as
follows:
1. Replace on new alignment to the west while maintaining traffic on existing bridge
2. Replace in place with on-site detour to the west
Replace on new alignment to the east
When available, we will provide you a copy of Natural Resources Technical Report (NRTR). At that
time, we will solicit information about these projects to be used in the preparation of a federally
funded Categorical Exclusion. If your agency has critical information that can be furnished at this
time, please feel free to do so. It is desirable that your agency respond June 10, 2008 so that your
comments can be used in the preparation of this document.
If you have any questions concerning any of these projects, please contact Christy Wright, PE at 715-
5506. Please include the TIP Project Number in all correspondence and comments.

3. Replace on new alignment to the east
