You'll see the channel area went up a tiny bit. Once I reduced the basin area, it moved the break-point between the channel and basin a little (as the basin became smaller, the channel extended a little further). On balance dredge area and volume will be reduced. Thanks again! I wanted to ask, the updated volumes are higher than what was in the application. I know you mentioned that they may be slightly overestimated, but I wanted to double check since the minimization efforts show an increase in volume. Following our meeting, we revised the proposed dredging footprint to reduce bottom impacts around the docks. The attached layout shows a revised dredging limit, which reduces dredging area by 890 sq.ft. We did discuss reducing the access channel to 18' wide, but feel that 20' wide is the minimum width needed for safe navigation. With an average boat width, a 20' wide channel would leave approximately 5' on either side for side slopes and safe navigation. Given variability in tides/winds and other factors, the 5' width is expected to be necessary. The NMFS is accepting a donation of shell to the NCDMF oyster recycling program as mitigation for bottom impacts, which may partially offset these impacts. Please let me know if these revisions are acceptable, and whether I need to submit the revision on letterhead.
