There was a survey bust during the design stage and during construction it was discovered that the existing conditions at the site of BMP1 consisted of an unmaintained grassy area in a shallow depression. The bypass pipe for BMP has been installed, routing roof runoff to the area, which now holds water from 0” to 9” deep for extended periods of time. Water level gradually recedes due to infiltration and evaporation. A revised survey of the area validated a potential redesign option which would relocate the level spreader lip to an area +/- 200’ north of the existing location. The redesigned location would require additional piping and would have located the vegetated filter strip in a remote area, increasing the maintenance burden and decreasing the likelihood of consistent long term performance. After internal discussion and a site meeting with Mr. Richardson, we decided to pursue a permit revision to replace the proposed level spreader with a modified design for a constructed wetland. The existing low are encompasses approximately 950 sf and would require little or no additional grading. We propose to vegetate the area with 99 herbaceous plants in the area most prone to long term inundation, and 96 herbaceous plants and 4 shrubs on the perimeter of the inundation area. A narrow channel area will be incorporated into the planting plan in the event of high flows. The outlet from the area is a natural earthen berm which currently exists within the riparian buffer. The additional plant material will further aid in dewatering the system compared to the existing condition. No additional buffer disturbance is proposed at this time, however the condition of the buffer will be inspected annually to monitor erosion, rills and gullies which may form over time. We appreciate your consideration of this natural alternative. Please provide a detailed email explaining why the existing plan isn’t feasible, the proposed solution, and a marked-up drawing showing the revisions. After reviewing, if we’re ok with it, we’ll email back with approval for the revisions. Let me know if you have any questions. -Jason _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _, 1 Jason T. Robinson, P.E.
