Project length is approximately 0.12 miles. The existing right-of-way is assumed to be 30 feet from the centerline of the roadway and proposed to be expanded to 50 feet. There will be an off-site detour of 9.4 miles. The project length and proposed ROW are exaggerated at this time. SUMMARY OF HISTOffiC ARCHICTECTURE AND LANDSCAPES REVIEW ❑ There are no National Register-listed or Study Listed properties within the project's area of potential effects. � There are no properties less than fifty years old which are considered to meet Criteria Consideration G within the project's area of potential effects. ❑ There are no properties within the project's area of potential effects. ❑ There are properties over fif�y years old within the area of potential effects, but they do not meet the criteria for listing on the National Register. � There are no historic properties present or affected by this project. (Attach any notes or documents as needed.) Date of field visit: 8/14/13 Review of HPO quad maps, HPOweb GIS mapping, historic designations roster, and indexes was conducted on 7/30/13. Based on this review,there are no NR, DE, or LL properties within the Area of Potential Effects (APE), however, the project falls within the SL (study-listed) St. Mary's Road Rural Historic District (OR 1456). As the APE stands now there are two Surveyed Sites, the Walker House (OR 1455) and the Latta Farm (which is shown on HPOweb to be gone). Orange County property and tax records were reviewed which revealed one property within or near the APE over the age of fifty years old, a small ca. 1929 building. The APE is northeast of Hillsborough in a nual setting and consists primarily of farniland and residences. It is not clear whether these surveyed sites and other properties falling within the St. Mary's Road Rural Historic District would be eligible for the NRHP and whether the project would have anv effects unon the historic uroverties, therefore a survev was needed to assess these tM1ogrammafic Ageemen(. Page 1 of 6 questions. A Field survey was conducted on August 14, 2013. Bridge No. 61 and the project APE were both documented as well as the surrounding surveyed sites and historic properties. Despite Bridge No. 61 being within the study-listed St. Mary's Road Rural Historic District, the project APE for replacing the bridge does not contain any of the surveyed sites in the district within its parameters. The closest surveyed site is the badly deteriorating Walker House (OR1455), and it sits approximately 600 feet east from the project APE. The Latta Farm is another surveyed site nearby but it appears to be gone except for a few remaining outbuildings. Newer housing has been built in its place. Also sitting within the APE is the Eno Fire Station 2 as well as a mid-to-late twentieth cenhuy ranch house that does not appear eligible for the NRIIP. The replacement of Bridge No. 61 should have no adverse impact on the historic character or rural nature of the district, therefore, NCDOT Historic Architecture makes a finding of "No Historic Properties Affected" for this project.
