Thanks for your help. We do not consider fescue native vegetation, so fescue sod would not be appropriate in this situation. Once the banks are matted and vegetation begins appearing, I’m usually comfortable with turning the water into the channel. I can come out and take a look on 9/12 or 13 to see the progress of the vegetation if you think it will be coming up at that point. As for the rip rap channels, I don’t need to see those prior to turning the water into them as long as the channel has been completed as designed and approved. If you want to discuss this, please don’t hesitate to contact me. The Contractor is requesting to use fescue sod to line the ditch (Section 1 Roadway Plans SH8 and C100 Culvert Construction Sequence drawings) and they are installing the 1 permanent channel change at –L- 62+40 – 63+11 LT – See attached SH7. If the placement of sod is acceptable please schedule a review for the channel on or near Sept. 12. Please contact me if you have any comments or questions. The first one is at the outlet of C-100 - see attached Section 1 Roadway Plans SH8 and C100 Culvert Construction Sequence drawings. Weather permitting, we will start the excavation for this channel relocation on 9/6 and should be completed by the end of next week. A large portion of this work is to be constructed using ditch detail F – see attached, which calls to be grass lined. In lieu of waiting on vegetation to grow and become established before we can turn water into the new channel we are proposing to use fescue sod to line the channel if no one has any issues. Per the project specific conditions of the 401 permit, could you tentatively schedule NC Division of Water Resources and any thth others regulatory agencies to review the new channel for September 12 or 13 so we can turn Cable Creek through a temporary channel and into the permanent channel relocation per Erosion Control Sheet 8B and get started with the culvert construction as soon as possible. The other permanent channel change is at –L- 62+40 – 63+11 LT – See attached SH7 - that we would like to construct next week. The proposed channel is only 70’ and the JS is dry at this point. This channel change is lined with Class B Rip- Rap and can be completed in a half a day. Do you think we could get permission from NC Division of Water Resources to complete this channel change without them physically being onsite and reviewing or do we need to coordinate this work? Once we complete the channel relocation at the outlet of C100 we plan on moving directly to the permanent channel relocation at the inlet of C300 –Y4RPA- 10+00 – 21+50 RT.
