Per previous similar events, please keep me informed of any sediment release finds and clean up efforts in waters of the US. Brian, Dave W. had taken the lead on NCDOT sediment release cleanup guidance with my coordination and occasional input. Please let me know if this works for you for sediment release events or if you would prefer a different arrangement. -Dave Bailey --- David E. Anyway, this email is to inform you that there was sediment (mostly clean small stone) that washed into Permit Site 9 on Project U-2524C (see attached pictures). The stone was up slope from the site and was being used by NCDOT as the foundation for the bridge approach slab. The rain event overwhelmed the protective berm which allowed the stone to wash through several feet of bank stabilizing riprap which then overwhelmed the silt fence at the toe of slope. The area impacted was approximately four to six feet wide by fifteen feet long and up to three feet in depth. I have instructed the contractor to remove the small stone utilizing approved sediment removal guidelines. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. Thanks.
