Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on Monday, November 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Watauga Campus of Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute (in Building W372 Room 112, the building on the top of the hill with flagpoles out front), 372 Community College Drive in Boone. Interested citizens may attend at any time during the hearing hours, as there will be no formal presentation. The proposed project would improve 4.5 miles of N.C. 105 between Foscoe and Boone. N.C. 105 would be widened to three lanes (adding a southbound passing lane) from Old Shull's Mill Road to Broadstone Road and to four lanes with a 23-foot wide raised median from Broadstone Road to N.C. 105 Bypass. Six- foot paved shoulders will be added along the entire 4.5-mile corridor. The 1-mile corridor from Clark's Creek Road to Old Shull's Mill Road also was studied, but it was determined that no improvements are needed along that section. Replacement of the bridge that carries N.C. 105 over the Watauga River north of the Broadstone Road intersection has been designed as part of this study, but is funded separately and will be constructed sooner than the rest of the corridor. Project mapping will be displayed and project team representatives will be available to answer questions and receive comments. Written comments can be submitted at the meeting or by December 5, 2016. The comments received will be considered in the final design process.
