Annual Avg Daily Traffic (veh/hr/day): Design/Future: 1020 Year: 2031 Existing: 510 Year: 2011 General Project Narrative: State project 17BP2.R.68 involves the replacement of Beaufort County Bridge #060101 on SR 1518 (Corsica Rd.) over Herring Run. The existing bridge consists of (Description of Minimization of Water 1@ 17' - 9", 1@ 16' - 10", 1@ 17' - 9" timber deck spans on timber joists and is to be replaced with a 1@ 50' - 0", 1@ 30' - 0", 21" cored slab bridge (SO' total length, Quality Impacts) 33' total width) at the same location. The project also includes 0.09 miles of approach roadway improvements and the re-grading of an existing drive in the southeast quadrant of the crossing. In accorance with Tar-Pamlico River Buffer Regulations, the propsoed bridge does not contain deck drains. All stormwater from the bridge and approches will be collected by a storm drainage system and discharged into a preformed scour hole at the proposed toe of fill. The scour hole will be outside the buffer limits in the northwest quadrant at -L station 13+18 LT. No wetlands are present within the project limits. 3 of the 4 existing ditches outlet before reaching the stream and buffers (northwest, southwest, and northeast quadrants). This is maintained in the proposed design with variable-width base ditches and class'B' rip-rap added at the outlets to dissipate concentrated flow. The existing southeast ditch outlets directly into the stream and crosses under a drive near the bridge in an existing 24" RCP. The existing 24" RCP is to be retained with a portion of the ditch re-graded due to widened fill slope. No work is to be performed on this ditch inside the buffers.
