Subject: NCDOT - Ferry - Southdock Dredging Notification
Hello,
1
This email is to provide notification that the NCDOT Ferry Division plans to perform maintenance dredging at the
Southdock Ferry Terminal in the approach channel. This dredging project will be completed by the Marine Maintenance
crew with the pipeline dredge. We anticipate starting this project in October of 2016.
The proposed area that is being dredged has been dredged many times before under our current permit but has
recently filled back in due to recent storm activity. This accumulation of sand is now causing trouble for the ferries
coming in and out of the terminal.
The dredging project will remove an estimated 37,000 cubic yards of material, which will be placed into the Southdock
Spoil Site. Clearing this approach channel will allow for easier and safer passage in and out of the ferry terminal.
Attached is a survey map that outlines that area that we are to dredge. You will see P1 and P2 marked on the survey,
this is in the area of where dredging will occur.
If you have any questions or need any additional information please let me know
Thank you,
