Based on our conversation, the description you provide below, and the nutrient calculations. For this unique situation that utilizes an underdrain system, I believe that routing the outlets to existing ditches with dissipaters designed for full flow from the outlets meets the intent of the buffer diffuse flow requirements. Please bear in mind that buffer impacts will still need to be addressed, although I think you said that was already covered in your 401 application. Please let me know if you have any questions. -Jason ------------ Jason T. Robinson, P.E. As discussed, please find attached preliminary nitrogen export calculations for the site. As you will see in the summary, our post -development loading is less than the 2.2 and 0.82 targets for the UNH arm of Jordan Lake. With re: to the underdrain outlets, we will be aiming them towards the existing ditches on this site and will install velocity dissipaters at their ends to help address any erosion in these areas. To size them (and due to the difficulty in computing the flow rate from the underdrains), we will size the dissipaters assuming a full flow condition. Hopefully this email helps to address the level spreader/diffuse flow requirement issue for this site. If you should have any questions or need any additional information, please do not hesitate to give me a call. Best regards, Brandon R. Re: the outlets — you are correct. However, please note both underdrains discharge into an existing ditch with outlets on each end into Morgan Creek. For clarity, I created two snippets below that turn off the proposed grading and only show the proposed field, underdrains, and the existing contours. A couple of items to note: 1. There is an existing footbridge with culverts as well in this ditch (shown in gray). If needed, I also attached the existing conditions sheet for reference. 2. The snippet of the south side shows a different location for the outlet, but this also goes to a concentrated location. My preference would be to outlet into the ditch shown on the PDF and not the location we show below, but that is up for discussion. I am hoping that since we are discharging underdrains into an existing ditch that already has natural concentrated points through the buffer to Morgan Creek that we would not need to provide a level spreader, but I am deferring to you. You are correct with the two points of discharge. Note this is preliminary at this point and we can try to shift where we are proposing Zone 1 impacts if needed The field will be Bermuda grass and I am certain they will maintain it. I am not sure of the fertilization program. Best, Brandon R. I haven't experienced a project like this before that will just be collecting the water that soaks through the ground, and not technically collecting surface water. From what I can see from a quick look at the plans, there will be two points of discharge, one on the SE corner of the eastern field, and on the NE corner of the eastern field. The SE discharge appears to be in Zone 2 of the buffer and discharging into Zone 1, and the NE discharge appears to be outside of the buffer and discharging into Zone 2. Is this accurate? One concern I have is that I assume this field would be heavily fertilized. I'd like to discuss with co-workers and will get back with you. -Jason ------------ Jason T. Robinson, P.E.
