The zinc level for reported for June 28, 2016 was 0.538 mg/1 while the benchmark should be no more than 0.067 mg/l. During the sample period in question, there were no non-storm water discharges to the outfall, or any material handling or other activities not authorized by our permit. Since the discovery of the zinc exceedance we have engaged a wide range of Caterpillar staff to avoid future zinc exceedances, including upper management, Divisional EHS staff and our Legal Services Division. We take this situation seriously and are actively working to prevent future exceedances. Both internal and external housekeeping efforts have been improved. We have sampled water collected from outdoor secondary containments as well. This water will be collected and treated by waste management contractors instead of being discharged to outfalls. Additionally, we continue to investigate all other possible sources of the zinc that may be impacting our stormwater samples. In summary, our investigation team is actively seeking out the root cause of this issue. Once the root cause is identified, we will put an effective corrective action plan in place to prevent future instances of non-compliance. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at(828)-584-1943. Best Regards,q-6^ nnQ 676P Amy George EHS Coordinator Caterpillar Inc.
