Subject: CC of Asheville Pipe Removal & Rehabilitation - NCWRC comments
Hi William,
I have reviewed the information sent to me on the CC of Asheville Pipe Removal&Rehabilitation Project,
which proposes to replace failing pipe on several unnamed tributaries to Beaverdam Creek and Killian Branch,
place a new 8 ft culvert on Killian Branch, and daylight and restore 345 feet of Killian Branch in Buncombe
County.
Project activities should not impact trout and do not need to be avoided during the trout moratorium.
The application proposes using HDPE culverts on several of the project reaches. We recommend against using
smooth-walled HDPE material, as this slick material is less likely to hold stream substrate and provide for
movement of aquatic organisms like fish and salamanders.
Thank you for the opportunity to review and comment on this project. Please contact me if you have any
questions about these comments or need further assistance.
