Dear. Mr. Schiller:
The Division of Water Quality (DWQ) 401 Oversight and Express Review Permitting Unit has reviewed
the Year 3 Monitoring Report for the above-referenced site. In addition, Eric Kulz and Sue Homewood
of DWQ conducted a site visit on February 19, 2008. Our comments on the report and site visit are as
follows:
• Channel morphology appears stable over the past three years of monitoring, which is
encouraging. No indications of downcutting or bank erosion was noted in the sections of
channel observed.
• Vegetative success appears good at the site. Both woody stem density and the size of the trees
was impressive.
• All of the wells at the site met hydrology success criteria, despite the drought conditions.
• While not observed during the site visit, the beaver dam located on the downstream portion of
the project poses a concern to the stream channel stability and vegetation survival in adjacent
riparian areas. Beaver management activities should be undertaken to continue the success
achieved to date at this site.
This site has met the success criteria for both the stream and wetland component of the project. We look
forward to the continued success of this stream and wetland restoration site.
