HeatCraft Groundwater Remediation Site

Dear Permittee:
The North Carolina Division of Water Resources conducted an inspection of the HeatCraft Groundwater
Remediation Site on May 17, 2016. This inspection was conducted to verify that the facility is operating in
compliance with the conditions and limitations specified in NPDES WW Permit No. NC0083658. A summary of
the findings and comments noted during the inspection are provided in the enclosed copy of the inspection
report.
The Compliance Evaluation inspection was conducted by Division of Water Resources staff from the Wilmington
Regional Office. The following deficiency(s) was noted during the inspection:
Inspection Area Description of Deficiency
Flow Measurement- Effluent Calibration not reviewed during visit and requested afterwards. Apparently not been done
since current project manager took over. It was mentioned in 8-2011 inspection report to
make sure it was done, but a review of inspections back in 2004 and 2006 do not show it
was reviewed or provided either.
In addition, the corrosion issues at the facility should be addressed as soon as possible to avoid a system failure.

Remedial actions should have already been taken to correct this problem and prevent further occurrences in the
future. The Division of Water Resources may pursue enforcement action for this and any additional violations df
State law. To prevent further action, carefully review these deficiencies and address the causes of
non-compliance to prevent the recurrence of similar situations.
