After further review and discussions with the property owner of 4 Backfin Point, Harry
Shaw, on Figure Eight Island, I am submitting additional information regarding the
proposed bulkhead and replacement.
The recently proposed bulkhead is located on Figure Eight Island. The property on each
side of the one identified is developed. All of the structures push the limits on the
setbacks making access with much of the necessary equipment extremely difficult. The
bulkhead alignment is designed to be installed a maximum of 2' waterward of the
existing bulkhead which is composed of asbestos material. Unfortunately, coastal
wetlands will be impacted under this design. Waterline Marine Construction is willing to
reduce the distance waterward of the new bulkhead to 18" to minimize the impact of the
new wall. We are conscious of the impact on coastal wetlands and will do whatever
possible to salvage the existing grasses. The two returns will be installed in the same
footprint. In addition, we feel as if it is unreasonable to remove more asbestos than
necessary and risk the potential of it becoming friable.
A new 4' x 16' section of floating dock has been included to provide additional mooring.
The necessary application and related information is attached. Again, Waterline Marine
will make every effort to reduce the impact to the coastal wetlands present on the site.
