SUBJECT: Section 401 Certification for River sanding at Sandy Ridge, Guilford Cpunty,
North Carolina.. DWQ ID: 980049
Bittlagib~ts with the Wildlife Resources Commission (1NRC) have reviewed the s<lbject
document. fur comtne~nts ass provided in accoxdanoe whh provisions ofthe Clean Water Act of
1977 (33 U.S.C. 456 et seq.).
River Landing At Sandy Ridge proposes to impact approxunately 0,497 acres of wetlands
by dredging, piping, a~ad filing during the construction of a Senior Living Community. In
addition, an approximately 1. acre starmwater pond will be canstruc-ted downstreaw from two
unnamed tributaries oftl~e West Fork Deep River.
An an-site investigation of the area was oonducted os 17 February 1998. Although the
proposed storinwatcr pasd would reduce cutxcnt sediment lovcsls to tht West Fork Deep kiver,
the coristruotion of a retiremen 'ty would pxobably increase the sodimcnt load to that
pond. We would reconunes 00 ooded burr around the stormwater pond to help reducc ~
the impacts of sediment to the est Fork Reap River.
