Bridge to Culvert Avoidance and Minimization
Proposed Structure Summary
Sheet No. & Station Sheet No.: 4 Station: L 13+75 Number of Culverts: 1
Drainage Area (ac or sq mi): 3.5 sq miles Culvert Width/Diameter (ft : 34'-11"
Surface Water Body: Lick Creek Culvert Height (ft): 10'-4"
Culvert T e: 4 sided aluminum box culvert Culvert Length ft 102
Avoidance and Minimization Efforts: The proposed culvert slope is consistent with the existing stream slope. Sills and BafFles with a low flow notch are proposed to mimic the low flow
(Bridge to Culvert) channel dimension along the stream. Low flow velocities through the culvert are consistent with the stream natural channel low flow velocities.
Proposed culvert will buried, sills placed at inlet and outlet and a baffle in the middle of the box to retain bed material.
Stream Slope Fish and/or Aquatic Life Passage
Existing Average Stream Slope (°/a): 0.50 % Existing Low Flow Channel Dimensions Approx. 15 ft
Proposed Culvert Slope (%): 0.45 % in the Stream:
Culvert Burial
Proposed Culvert Burial Depth (ft): 1 ft.
Existing Streambed Material: cobbles and rock Proposed Low Flow Dimensions 15 ft
Through the Culvert:
Proposed Sills/Baffles: Sills at both US and DS ends, and baffle at the
midpoint of the structure. The sill ht is 1.5' with a 0.5' Existing Low Flow Velocities in the
low flow notch.s Stream (ft/s): 5.1
ropose ow ow e oci ies roug
the Culvert (fUs): 5.1
Alternating Low Flow Sills/Baffles: No. Existing stream at center of proposed box
is approximately in center of box.
Culvert/Stream Alignment
Stream Patterns Upstream and Downstream Stream typical straight with some gradual meanders.
of the Culvert that Could Affect Fish
Passage and Bank Stability:
Bed Forms Impacted by Culvert (riffles, Culvert looks to be in a riffle/glide with a pool near the outlet.
pools, glides, etc.):
Low Flow Floodplain Bench Required? Yes Benches up and downstream to transition box and low flow channel to existing stream top of banks.
(provide justification)
Sharp Bends at Inlet/Outlet? No
(describe culvert alignment with stream)
Stream Realignment Necessary? (provide No
justification)
Bank Stabilization: Class I Rip Rap on banks at inlet and outlet. Existing banks are moderately stable.
Outlet Velocities
Natural Stream Channel 2-yr Velocity (ft/s): 2.6 Natural Stream Channel 10-yr Velocity (ft/s): 5.1
Proposed Culvert 2-yr Outlet Velocity (ft/s): 2.8 Proposed Culvert 10-yr Outlet Velocity (ft/s): 5.1
