Knight, Sherri; Smith, George; Mickey, Mike Subject: Re: Tabor Pond aquatic plant and algae 160608 Thanks for the effort and report. It is just hard for me to look at all these new "happenings" to the lake as just incidental affects. Again I had none of these things prior to the road construction. As Mike Mickey told me "the lake will never again be the same". I will look at the info and if I have questions or additional concerns, I will be in touch. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The plant is Eleocharis baldwinii, a native aquatic plant common throughout the state. More information on Eleocharis can be found on the University of Florida's website https://plants.ifas.ufl.edu/plant-directory/eleocharis-baldwinii/ The filamentous green algae growing intermixed with the Eleocharis was a mixture of Spirogyra and Oedogonium. The density of the phytoplankton in the pond was lower than expected for this time of year, < 3,000 units/ml (units are cells, filaments or colonies), and consisted primarily of euglenoids, cryptomonads, diatoms and bluegreens. In general, the aquatic plant and algae growing in the pond are what we would expect to find in North Carolina piedmont lakes and ponds during the summer. I have attached fact sheets which provide more information on the aquatic plants and filamentous green algae common in North Carolina along with the Duckweed Fact sheet you requested.
