Subject: Request for a NWP 3 and 401 Water Quality Certification for the replacement of
Bridge #7 over Sawyers Creek on SR 1200 in Camden County. WBS # 17BP.1.R.68
The North Carolina Department of Transportation is requesting the issuance of a
Nationwide Permit 3 and corresponding 401 Water Quality Certification for the
replaceinent of Br•idge #7 in Camden County. The bridge is located on SR 1200
approximately 0.1 tniles west of SR 1145. The bridge crosses Sawyers Creek, classified by
NCDWR as C;Sw waters. The bridge is cui7ently a 2-span pre-stressed concrete deck on
concrete caps & timber piles; OAL = 60'. This structur•e will be removed using NCDOT's
guidelines for bridge removal. The proposed bridge will be placed on its existing
alignment. The new bridge structure will be a single-span 24" concrete cored-slab bridge;
OAL = 70' long by 30' wide. Jurisdictional wetland impacts have been rninimized,
resulting in 0.05 acres of permanent wetland impact. No peimanent stream impacts are
proposed. An off-site detour will be utilized during construction. This bridge is following
the Low Impact Bridge Process established by FHWA, NCDOT, and Regulatoiy Agencies.
