B 1020 BIRCH RIDGE DRIVE RALEIGH NC, 27610 NCDOT WILL HOLD A PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS TO U.S. 701 BYPASS FROM SOUTH OF PLEASANT PLAINS ROAD (S.R. 1166) TO NORTH OF U.S. 74-76 BYPASS IN WHITEVILLE, COLUMBUS COUNTY TIP Project No. R-5020 The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold an informal Public Hearing for the above-mentioned highway project on September 15 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the Cafeteria of Whiteville High School, 413 North Lee Street in Whiteville. The purpose of the project is to increase the traffic carrying capacity and safety of U.S. 701 Bypass within the project limits. It proposes to make improvements to U.S. 701 Bypass from south of Pleasant Plains Road (S.R. 1166) to north of the U.S. 74-76 Bypass in Whiteville. Proposed improvements include widening U.S. 701 Bypass in the project limits to a four-lane divided roadway with a 23-foot wide raised median. The project is about 4 miles in length. Alternatives will be presented at the meeting. Additional right of way and the relocation of homes and businesses will be required for this project. Interested individuals may attend this hearing any time during the above hours. NCDOT representatives will display maps and be available to answer questions and receive comments. Written comments can be submitted at the meeting or later by October 15. Comments and information received will be taken into consideration as work on the project develops. Please note that there will not be a formal presentation. Maps displaying the proposed alternatives and the Environmental Assessment (EA) document will be available for public review at the following locations: o City of Whiteville 317 S.
