Bogue Inlet Channel Erosion Response Project
Channel Maintenance with Beach Disposal
The proposed maintenance project would restore the original dimensions of the landward 2,100
feet of the new channel constructed in Bogue Inlet in 2005 as part of the Bogue Inlet Channel
Erosion Response Project and deposit the maintenance material on the west end of the Town of
Emerald Isle (see Sheets 1 & 2) in an area that has experienced erosion associated with the
readjustments of Bogue Inlet following the completion of the original channel erosion response
project. The permitted dimensions of the section of the channel to be maintained are 150 feet
wide at a depth of -17 feet NGVD (National Geodetic Vertical Datum) as shown on Sheet 3.
Channel side slopes would be 1 V:SH (1 Vertical:5 Horizontal). The estimated volume of
material to be removed is 174,000 cubic yards based on a hydrographic survey conducted by
Geodynamics LLC in November 2007.
The proposed beach disposal area would begin at a point approximately 300 feet west of Coast
Guard Road (see Sheet 2) and extend west approximately 2,000 feet as shown on Sheet 2. The
disposal fill will have a variable crest width constructed to an elevation of +5 feet NGVD (+/-).
A typical cross-section of the proposed fill is shown in Sheet 4.
