Describe proposed work (include discussion as to how hardening of shoreline has been avoided, or why it is necessary): This is an undeveloped, untouched lakeshore lot with a fairly severe erosion issue. The top of the bank is between 6 and 8 ft. above the shoreline (see pictures). We propose grading landward approximately 10 ft. for rip rap to stabilize the shoreline. We also respectfully request the ability to grade an additional 6 ft. to blend the land into the rip rap. We estimate between 8 and 12 loblolly pine trees will be impacted by this proposal. The existing trees are fairly close to one another. We propose replanting between 4 to 6 hardwood trees (dogwood, maple or river birch). We propose planting ,fewer trees than we remove to allow the hardwood trees to grow. Please note that we wish to keep our lakeshore lot more natural. We are not interested in planting turf grass or -removing a significant number of trees. There is very little vegetation under the pine straw. We propose planting natural grasses and/or wild flowers where the soil has been impacted. Once the grading and replanting has occurred, a silt fence will be installed upland to protect the replanted area. It should also be noted that Wade Harmon from Duke Power has walked our lot and is in favor of our proposal. Wade also noted that without the proposed grading, the cost of filling in the eroded area would become very expensive. 9. Will work be conducted from land? U From water? ❑ 10. Total amount of disturbance (including all excavation, backfill, rip rap, retaining walls, etc.) below the normal pool lake level/ Normal Water Level in square feet or acres: Only disturbance rip rap.
