Re: McMullen Creek Greenway Trail
Phase II, Project #92579
Dear Ms. Brunnemer:
Thank you for returning my telephone call last week. As we discussed, I am very
concerned about the drainage design of Walden Greenway. Over the last several months,
areas of the proposed Greenway property have been filled in and leveled for pathways.
Unfortunately, during a recent heavy rainfall, this leveling led to the accumulation of eight
feet of water on my property; unprecedented in the nine years I have lived here, even with
Hurricane Hugo. The water level was one foot away from my heat pump when I decided
it would be wise to turn off all the electricity and evacuate my home.
Attached are letters I have previously sent to individuals involved with this project,
including photographs which showed how my property already accumulated water from the
proposed Greenway property during storms and expressing concern about more severe
damage if proper drainage was not taken into consideration with the further development
of the Project.
Per our conversation, you will send someone out to examine the area. I also would
appreciate it if you would request that the design of the proposed Walden Greenway be re-
examined to consider the concerns of the property of the homeowners adjacent to the
Greenway. That there will continue to be serious storms in the future cannot be avoided,
but I do not want to think that I will have to evacuate my home every time we have a
prolonged rainfall. And that would be the least of my problems and heartache if a solution
cannot be reached.
