Enclosed is a copy of the March 2016 Fathead Minnow Effluent Toxicity Test and the Ceriodaphnia Dubia
Effluent Toxicity Test conducted by the City of Lincolnton Wastewater Treatment Plant, NPDES permit
number NC0025496. The Fathead Minnow Toxicity test was requested to be performed for our pending
NPDES Permit Renewal. The City of Lincolnton passed the Ceriodaphnia Dubia toxicity test, but the
Fathead Minnow test result was invalid.
The lab performing the test indicated that the samples were foamy when shaken and believes this foam to
have caused the food for the minnows to die. Lack of food caused the minnows to have low growth and
mortality. However, we did pass the Ceriodaphnia Dubia test which was taken at the same time as the
Fathead Minnow test.
We repeated the Fathead Minnow test in April and the result was a pass. Since the March test resulted in an
invalid result, we are performing another Fathead Minnow test this week. 1 will forward the May results as
soon as I get them and hopefully this will complete the required alternate species toxicity testing required
for our NPDES permit renewal.
