I've requested information regarding DOT's annual need for approved sand based on the annual average
use from 200-2005, as you requested. I've not received the numbers yet.
According to the mining project engineers, the approximate volume of material in the excavation portion of
the proposed expansion area (shown in Figure 4 in the report) is approximately 250,000 cubic yards.
As I've mentioned during previous presentations/meetings, DOT used approximately 234,000 cubic yards
of material (18,000 truckloads) from the site to restore approximately 11,150 linear feet of dune north of
Buxton in 2004. Obviously this is a single event and does not address the annual ongoing maintenance
need along NC 12, but it illustrates what material from the proposed expansion area could accomplish.
I'm supposed to get a letter with the requested numbers faxed to me this morning. As soon as I do I'll have
it scanned and a-mail it to you.
