We trust the Environmental Management Commission will conduct a thorough review of the project and make an appropriate determination on the variance request. Jim Tom Reeder wrote: Jim - Thanks for your response. I guess I misspoke in that we did not distribute Jan's letter to the EMC/WQC, although for some reason I was under the impression that some of the members were aware of its contents. For your information I have attached the Public Notice for the Public Meeting on Aug 3rd. Thanks. James Stephenson wrote: Hi Tom, I did receive your voice mail when I returned from Raleigh on Friday. Did I understand you to say that you distributed our letter to members of the Water Quality Committee or EMC? If so, when did this occur? After listening to the discussion at the EMC meeting, I conferred with Todd Miller on the variance request. Our next step will be to confer with Jan DeBlieu, who is on a well deserved two week vacation and will not be back in the office until July 31. In the meantime, I conducted additional research on the variance request and attempted to weigh the likely impacts and relative significance of the points we raised in our letter. I will get back to you in about a week with an answer to your question. If there is a reason you require an answer before then, please let me know. I can be reached at 252-241-7313 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. I can tell you that we do not plan to formally intervene in the variance request. I have heard that a public meeting is scheduled for August 3. Do you have additional details? I know we received the original letter from Jan DeB. but since then we have heard that the Coastal Fed no longer actively opposes the variance. Alan K, our Director, wanted me to check and see if you all had softened your stance on this. Thanks for your help.
