Renewal Request for US 70 (Clayton Bypass) from I-40 to US 70 Business in Wake and
Johnston Counties, State Project No. 8.T311002, TIP No. R-2552, NCDOT Divisions 4
and 5, Debit $570.00 from WBS Element 34459.1.1.
Reference: Section 401 Water Quality Certification and Neuse River Buffer Authorization dated
January 14, 2005 (WQC Project No. 041760)
As stated in the original application, the NCDOT proposed to construct a bypass, on new location, of
existing US 70 for a total length of 9.5 miles in Wake and Johnston Counties. This project was
authorized by the NCDWQ on January 14, 2005.
Since the original Section 401 Water Quality Certification and Neuse River Buffer Authorization were
issued, NCDOT has completed approximately 93% of the project. Project completion is estimated to
occur in June 2008.
Currently, the Section 401 Water Quality Certification and Neuse River Buffer Authorization expiration
date is January 14, 2008. In order to allow for project completion, NCDOT requests that the referenced
Section 401 Water Quality Certification and Neuse River Buffer Authorization be renewed.
In compliance with Section 143-215.3D(e) of the NCAC we will provide $570.00 to act as payment for
processing the Section 401 Certification Renewal. If you have any questions or need additional
