This was due to the fact that the only soil applicable to the performance of the BMP was being removed and the fact that the water table in the area is low. This maintenance record will be kept in a log in a known set location. Any deficient BMP elements noted in the inspection will be corrected, repaired or replaced immediately. These deficiencies can affect the integrity of structures, safety of the public, and the removal efficiency of the BMP. Important inspection and maintenance procedures: - Immediately after the bioretention cell is established, the plants will be watered twice weekly if needed until the plants become established (commonly six weeks). - Snow, mulch or any other material will NEVER be piled on the surface of the bioretention cell. - Heavy equipment will NEVER be driven over the bioretention cell. - Special care will be taken to prevent sediment from entering the bioretention cell. - Once a year, a soil test of the soil media will be conducted. After the bioretention cell is established, I will inspect it once a month and within 24 hours after every storm event greater than 1.0 inches (or 1.5 inches if in a Coastal County). Records of inspection and maintenance will be kept in a known set location and will be available upon request. Inspection activities shall be performed as follows. Approximately 1.8 acres will be disturbed during the construction process. Of that area, approximately 1.6 acres is on the developed property and 0.17 acres is in a road Right- of-Way. SITE DESCRIPTION The site is approximately 1.6 acres and is located off of Texland Blvd. at the corner of Texland Blvd. and Westinghouse Blvd. in Charlotte, NC. The lot adjoins a restaurant to the southeast and a vacant lot to the southwest. The site will be accessed from Texland Blvd. to the northwest. Westinghouse Blvd. borders the site to the Northeast. The 6.63 acre drainage basin to the site includes the neighboring parcels and a portion of Texland Blvd. Historical land use in the area was wooded. The developed restaurant site includes a detention pond which returns the post- development flows from that site to predevelopment levels. ADJACENT PROPERTY Land use in the immediate vicinity is commercial with the neighboring lot to the southwest being vacant. SOILS The soil throughout the project area and associated drainage area is entirely Iredell fine sandy loam, at 1-8 percent slopes (IrB) as identified on the latest USDA soils data. This soil type is classified as Hydrology Group D utilizing Table 16 of the Mecklenburg County Soil Survey. A soils survey was not conducted on the site. This is due to the fact that the bioretention area to be installed will require a select fill material. Surrounding soil will not affect the bioretention area as its porosity is less than that of the select fill and the water table in the area is significantly below the pond bottom. SUPPORTING CALCULATIONS One bioretention pond will be utilized at the site to reduce total suspended solids (TSS) for the site's impervious runoff to 85%. Design calculations for the bioretention area are on the following pages. Raingarden Sizing 1. Runoff Volume Calculations (NCDENR Stormwater BMP Manual, 3.3.1., "Simple Method" - Schueler, 1987) Calculate Runoff coefficient R„ Formula: R~=0.05+0.9(IA) Where: IA =Impervious fraction (Impervious portion of drainage area/drainage area) Drainage Area = 0.73 acres Impervious Area = 0.67 acres IA = 1.09 R~ = 1.03 Calculate volume of runoff Formula: V=3630*Rp*R~*A Where: V =Volume of runoff to be controlled (ft3) Rp =Design storm depth (in) A =Watershed area (ac) Rp = 1 inch A = 0.73 acres V = 2730.98 ft3 2. Determine Size of Bioretention Pond According to Section 12.3.3. of the NCDENR Stormwater BMP Manual, the cell must hold the first inch of runoff from the entire area. The surface area required is equal to the required treatment volume divided by the ponding depth. d = 12 inches A = 2730.98 ft2 4.
